Spent some time with a questionnaire for the point in the market place in Hexham recently, asking three questions. People much prefer to know that there is a limit to what they are being asked.
However, it was pretty deep as question number one was “What is the point of life?” Surprisingly many didn’t have an answer and it made a few splutter on their lattes.
Number two was “If you could ask God a question, what would you ask?” which picked up several different responses, but about half were variations on “Why do bad things happen to good people?”
The final question allowed people to define themselves as Christian, agnostic, atheist, other religion, don’t know, or other, which I think covered most bases. About half saw themselves as Christians.
It was great to be in the open air and engaging with people, and straight to the point in getting to the deep things of life. I enjoyed it – I think our correspondents did too. It was very easy to organise and well worth doing.
